Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the MTG decklist generator?

Simply paste your deck from MTG Arena, MTGO, Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, TappedOut, or any supported format into the "Main Deck" field. The generator will automatically parse your cards, validate them, and create a tournament-ready WotC registration sheet as a PDF.

What deck formats are supported?

Our decklist generator supports MTG Arena, MTGO (Magic Online), Moxfield, MTGGoldfish, TappedOut, MTG Salvation, Deckbox "Print" format, and MWS (Magic Workstation) formats. You can paste decklists directly without needing to separate the sideboard.

How do I save and share my decklist?

Use the "Copy Permalink" button to copy a link that pre-fills all your deck information; on a phone it opens the share sheet instead. The link is built in your browser and carries the whole deck itself, so nothing is stored on a server or sent to a link shortener. You can share this link with others or use it to quickly load your deck later. You can also save decklists locally using the "Save Decklist" button.

Does the generator validate card legality?

Yes. Choose your format (Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, Premodern, Old School, Commander, Duel Commander, Pauper Commander, PreDH or Oathbreaker) and the generator flags any card that is banned, not legal or over its copy limit, including the Vintage and Old School restricted lists and the cards Duel Commander bans as a commander. It also checks deck size: 60 cards and a 15-card sideboard for constructed, exactly 100 for Commander and its variants, exactly 60 for Oathbreaker counting the Oathbreaker and its signature spell, at least 40 for Limited. List the commander and any companion, or the Oathbreaker and its signature spell, in the sideboard. A Pauper Commander deck's commander is not checked, since the card data does not record which creatures were printed at uncommon. Left on Auto-detect, it guesses the format from the deck itself: a 100-card deck is Commander, a 40-card deck is Limited, and any other gets the narrowest constructed format it is legal in.

Is this decklist generator free to use?

Yes, decklist.app is completely free to use. Generate unlimited tournament registration sheets for Magic: The Gathering events without any cost or registration required.

Do I need to create an account?

No! decklist.app works entirely in your browser without any registration. Pasted decks are processed in your browser. Importing a link sends the deck source and ID to our import API; copying a permalink sends nothing anywhere, but the link itself carries the name, event and deck you entered, so share it only with people who should see them.

Supported Deck Formats

MTGO (Magic Online)

Export your deck from Magic Online and paste it directly. The format looks like:

4 Lightning Bolt
4 Counterspell
20 Island

Sideboard
3 Negate
2 Dispel

Lines marked SB:, as Magic Workstation writes them, go to the sideboard wherever they appear, and lines starting with //, such as its comments, are ignored.

MTG Arena

Export your deck from MTG Arena, or copy it in Arena's format from a deck site, and paste the whole export into the "Main Deck" field. Its headers sort the cards: Deck is the main deck, Sideboard the sideboard, and a Commander or Companion goes to the sideboard, commander first. The About block that names the deck is skipped, and so are the set code and collector number after each card:

About
Name Mono-Red Burn

Companion
1 Jegantha, the Wellspring (IKO) 222

Deck
4 Lightning Bolt (2X2) 117
4 Monastery Swiftspear (BRO) 144
20 Mountain (ANA) 1

Sideboard
1 Jegantha, the Wellspring (IKO) 222
2 Blood Moon (DMR) 123

Arena lists a companion in the sideboard as well, and it is counted once. Headers are read in any case, with or without a colon, so MAINBOARD: and Sideboard (15) work too. A Maybeboard section is left out.

MTGGoldfish

Paste the deck's address (mtggoldfish.com/deck/…) into "Import a deck", and its name fills in Deck Name. Or copy your deck from MTGGoldfish using the "Export" → "Text" option. Both main deck and sideboard will be parsed automatically.

Moxfield

Paste the deck's address (moxfield.com/decks/…) into "Import a deck". Commanders and a companion, or an Oathbreaker and its signature spell, are added to the sideboard, since Commander decks have none and a commander listed there stays easy to find; the maybeboard is ignored, and so is the sideboard of a deck with a commander, where Moxfield players keep their cuts. The deck's format is selected for you when it is one the generator checks, and its name fills in Deck Name.

You can also paste a deck copied from Moxfield's Export dialog, in plain text or for MTG Arena. Set codes, collector numbers and foil markers such as *F* are ignored, and the Commander, Companion and Sideboard headers are read as they are in an Arena export.

Archidekt

Paste the deck's address (archidekt.com/decks/…) into "Import a deck". The deck must be public. Cards in the Sideboard category go to the sideboard, as do the commander and a companion; and the Maybeboard and any other category left out of the deck are ignored, and so is the Sideboard of a deck with a commander, where Archidekt players keep their cuts. Each card is placed by its first category, as Archidekt itself counts it. The deck's format is selected for you when it is one the generator checks, and its name fills in Deck Name.

Scryfall

Paste the deck's address (scryfall.com/@you/decks/…) into "Import a deck". The deck must be public. A constructed deck keeps its mainboard and sideboard; a Commander deck's commander and its cards from outside the game, such as a companion, go to the sideboard, as do an Oathbreaker deck's Oathbreaker and signature spell. The maybeboard is ignored. The deck's format is selected for you when it is one the generator checks, and its name fills in Deck Name.

TappedOut

Use TappedOut's "Text" export format. Click on your deck, then select the "Text" view and copy everything.

Deck files

Have your deck saved as a file? Open the "Text file" tab in "Import a deck" and choose it, or drop it on the main deck box. A text list (.txt) from MTG Arena or any deck site, an MTGO .dek and a Cockatrice .cod all work. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded anywhere. "Undo import" puts back the deck it replaced.

Manual Entry

You can also manually type your deck in this format:

Quantity CardName
4 Lightning Bolt
3 Snapcaster Mage

Direct Linking

You can create custom URLs that pre-fill the decklist generator with specific information. This is perfect for:

  • Tournament organizers pre-filling event information
  • Deck building websites integrating with decklist.app
  • Sharing pre-configured decklists with friends

Import a Deck from Its Link

Put decklist.app/ in front of a deck's address on MTGGoldfish, MTGTop8, Moxfield, Archidekt or Scryfall, and the generator opens with that deck imported:

https://decklist.app/https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6837920
decklist.app/moxfield.com/decks/…
decklist.app/https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=…&d=…&f=MO

The deck's https:// can stay or go, and nothing needs encoding. To combine an import with event or player details, use the deckimport parameter below instead.
